Sony 除了在熊本、長崎、大分有感光元件工廠之外，在山形及鹿兒島也都有設廠，這些工廠每個月生產約 68000 片晶片，Sony 目前還未給出熊本廠復工的時間表。

Sony 的熊本廠是 24 小時運作的感光晶片生產工廠，如蘋果 iPhone 等智慧型手機的相機都需要 Sony 的感光元件，在日元升值以及晶片需求逐漸下滑的市場趨勢下，大地震造成的停工損失更是雪上加霜。
